Saperavi Budeshuriseburi (Kakheti)

Saperavi Budeshuri is a local vine variety, in particular from Kakheti, synonyms: Saperavi Budeshuri, long-grain Saperavi. It produces high quality table red wine. Saperavi Budeshuriseburi is probably one of the variations of Saperavi variety. Unlike Saperavi, the grains are longer and ripen earlier. Characterized by medium or above-average growth and development. The grapes are fully ripe from mid-September. Relatively resistant to winter frosts and fungal diseases. A less common variety.

Very minor Georgian variety usually blended with Saperavi.

PRINCIPAL SYNONYMS: Budeshuri Saperavi, Budeshuri Shavi, Tsiteli Budeshuri

ORIGINS AND PARENTAGE

Budeshuri Tsiteli probably comes from eastern Georgia. The word budeshuri refers in Georgian to the oval-shaped berries. Budeshuri should not be confused with the white – berried Budeshuri Tetri.

VITICULTURAL CHARACTERISTICS

High yields, early to mid ripening and resistant to fungal diseases.

Kindzmarauli Marani in Kakheti, south – eastern Georgia, blend Budeshuri Tsiteli with Saperavi but there were just 2 ha (5 acres) in Georgia in 2004.
